From time to time, we all need a little gym-spiration. You’d rather hibernate on the sofa than break into a sweaty red-faced mess…. we’ve all been there. But some active girls are defying convention, and swapping the treadmill for the trapeze in order to get their health kick. It’s time to lace-up those trainers and switch on your power playlist with 7 For All Mankind’s guide to getting healthy, with a difference.

Ballet isn’t just for little girls in tutus: fans including Alexa Chung are slipping on their satin shoes and heading to the barre. Mary Helen Bowers is the guru behind @balletbeautiful, with classes that mix ‘athleticism and the grace of classical ballet’ – she’s also the arabesque force behind Natalie Portman in Black Swan.

@catmeffan [left] twists and turns into shapes that would make a pretzel jealous. She’s recently been making friends with @miguel_hand_balance [right] who practices the art of hand balancing. This long-standing art builds body strength and stamina, while encouraging the participant to move entirely on one hand.

@nicolewinhoffer is a girl on a mission. With her squad of girls she’s devised the ‘Nicole Winhoffer Method’; stemming from training a variety of stage performers, it’s a plan that encourages you to ‘free yourself mentally and it empowers people through movement in the dark’. With fans including Madonna, we’re in!

Be like Britney and head to the circus for your next fitness phase. We’re favouring the moves of @f_pouliot who regulay holds circus summer camps encouraging partakers to try out everythign from the trampolien to the chinese pole.
